USS Caron DD 970

September 1977 to June 1980.
Out of PRECOM and headed to Pascagoula, Mississippi to become a Plank Owner on the USS Caron DD-970. She was Commissioned 1 October 1977. I was an ENC at this time assigned to Engineering Department M Division. This was the first ship to have classic outboard built into it. It seemed the whole ship was an antenna. While in PRECOM I was assigned to the USS Spruance to fill in for a chief who passed away. This was a great help in learning the total engineering of the ship prior to getting the Caron. Got to see many places, learn a lot about different countries and people. The Caron went into the Black Sea and bothered a few people.
