Schedule of Events at the Maritime Museums

Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park will hit the ground running this year with their Opening Day festivities.

The F.D. Crockett will be on display. The Crockett is being rebuilt using both centuries old techniques and modern construction methods to bring her back to her former beauty. Her new decks should be significantly completed by May, so visitors should be able to visualize how she will look when fully restored. When finished, she will be the Museum’s flagship and living history exhibit, representing the museum as an ambassador all over the bay.

The Museum is proud to add Urbanna businessman Bill Hight to our on-land exhibitors. Bill has not only been instrumental in spearheading the Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Association and starting the annual Buyboat Rendezvous at ports throughout the Bay, but is also one of the area’s most knowledgeable scholars of  Bay working watercraft, builders and their techniques.  Bill will be bringing his private collection of handcrafted workboat models and a display about the Buyboat Association.

In the Boatshop will be both an exhibit of Colonial woodworking tools and ongoing demonstrations of such unfamiliar tools as the drawknife, spokeshave, and foot adze.

Any who wishes to display their fisheries related exhibits or techniques, please leave a message at the Museum, 776-7200 or e-mail at museumpark@oonl.com.
